12" round Graphite Drawing

"This drawing is the first round composition that I’ve done. The red admiral butterfly was the perfect specimen to honor in this unique manner, it’s one of my favorite butterflies. I see red admirals in the summer in my garden and in surrounding areas. I found this one on the ground in late summer and immediately was inspired by the beauty of it’s imperfection. Although it has prominent red and white markings, I thought it would be best to create the piece in graphite, instead of oil paint. This allowed the contrast, not the hue to compliment it’s delicate details."
